Planting Guide

What to Plant Now

Bedding Plants

Bedding plants add an instant splash of color to a garden. They can be planted in hanging baskets, containers or in mixed borders. Some bedding plants are temporary so your displays can be different each year.

Flowering Plants

Flowering plants enhance beauty, support local biodiversity by attracting pollinators, and improve mental well-being through their calming presence. They also contribute to better air quality, increase property value, and create vibrant, changing landscapes that can be enjoyed year-round.

Shrubs

An important element of any landscape, shrubs not only provide beauty but help screen, shade and protect your home. Shrubs come in all shapes, sizes, colors and textures ready for you to create a design that fulfills your special needs.

Trees

A well placed shade tree can lower your roof and wall temperatures by 20 degrees or more and help you save over 10% on your electrical bill. Trees help stabilize your neighborhood and add significantly to the value of your home. Homes sell faster in neighborhoods with mature trees.

Vines and Ground Cover

Vines can be used as sun screens, insulating your house to save on electric bills or cooling a patio. Vines add life to stark fences and walls, making them much more attractive. Ground covers are a low maintenance water wise alternative to lawn grasses, especially in trouble areas where grass will not grow.

Palms

Compared to most trees and shrubs, palms are very tolerant of poor soil, wind and salty spray. All palms benefit from regular watering and fertilization.

Ferns

Ferns grow naturally from the tip of South America to Alaska. Many do very well in residential and commercial landscapes and as interior-scape plantings.

Tropicals and Indoor Plants

Growing plants indoors is not only a fun and relaxing hobby, but it is also a great way to fight indoor air polution. Recent studies have shown that many of our comon houseplants are useful in absorbing harmful gases and cleaning the air in our homes and offices.

Tropicals and Outdoor Plants

Outdoor tropical plants are colorful plants that thrive in summer heat but do not tolerate freezing temperatures. This group of plants is very popular for containers on patios, around pools and on porches. Plants can be purchased as young plants or as mature specimens, ready to add immediate color to the landscape. Tropicals can be brought inside for winter protection and returned outside when warm temperatures return in the spring.
